And this is the second whole cloth mini quilt that I stitched during the Christmas break of 2021/2022. You can find the first one here. For this quilt I started sewing circles in different thread colours. Then I thought it would be fun to add another circle inside the first. After I had done this for the first shape, I wanted to add something to the inside of the double circle as well. So, I decided to learn how to do French knots. Which I expected to be difficult, but which turned out to be very doable after watching this video tutorial. Basically, this mini quilt turned into my French knot practice piece.
The quilt’s name “Vuurwerk” means Firework because it reminds me of a dark sky filled with exploding firework. This may also have something to do with the time that I sewed most of this, which was around New Year’s Eve.
This time I decided to use a contrasting binding and, on the back, it’s attached with big stitches. I thought that fit with the rest of the quilt and it is a bit quicker than doing invisible stitches.
I love this little quilt (it’s 9.5×10 inches) and I should really find a spot to hang it somewhere.
It’s a little bit Van Gogh Starry Night, too. I love the texture the big stitches produce.
Thank you! The texture is one of my favourite things too. So different from what you get with machine quilting.
Look at you and all this amazing stitching you are doing! Wonderful texture you created with your stitching in the firework piece!
Thank you!
